What is Employee State Insurance Corporation

Employee State Insurance Corporation or ESIC is a mass Social Security and insurance scheme, designed to accomplish the task of providing social protection to the ‘employees’ against unsure events like illness, maternity, disability and death because of injury sustained within the course of employment and to provide treatment to the workers and their dependents. The ESI provides complete treatment to the staff registered under this scheme throughout the time of recovery of the staff members. It provides financial help to the staff members, helping them in covering their loss of wages due to their absence from work because of illness, maternity or employment injury. 

The scheme provides treatment to the employees’ and their dependents. All institutions and factories having more than 10 workers are required to compulsorily apply for ESI registration within fifteen days of the ESI Act, 1948 coming in operation.
